| IMAP and POP3 and both email protocols for accessing email. One is not better than the other but they do have differences. IMAPWith IMAP when you access your emails through your email client you are not actually downloading the emails from the server you are viewing them directly on the server. This is advantageous if you often check your emails from different computers or would like to be able to keep your email viewable through webmail. The downside to this is if there is a problem with the mail server, your account or your local internet connection you will not be able to view your emails until the issue is resolved. POP3With POP3 when you check your emails you are downloading them from the server to your local computer and they are then deleted from the server. This means that you will be able to view your emails when you are offline and your emails will no longer take up space on your web account. The downside is once you have downloaded your emails you will no longer be able to download them on another computer and you will not see them in webmail. |
